  • First game for Mateo at second base in his professional career. A few days ago Brian Cashman said Mateo would start seeing time at the keystone and today was the first day for that. When Mateo does get promoted to Trenton, he and Tyler Wade will split time at short and second base. In this game, Mateo tripled and made some nice plays in the field as well. I had Mateo clocked at 10.3 seconds from home to third on the triple. That is: fast.

Low-A Charleston
3-1 win at Greenville

CF; Jeff Hendrix: 0-5, K, SB
SS. Hoy Jun Park: 2-5, 3B
RF. Jhalan Jackson: 1-3, 2B, BB, K
2B. Kyle Holder: 1-3, BB
3B. Angel Aguilar: 2-4, HR, K
LF. Leonardo Molina: 1-4, 2B, 2 K

  • Fifth homer of the season for Aguilar, who absolutely demolished an up and in fastball over Greenville's version of the Green Monster in left field. On the season Aguilar is now hitting .242/.287/.442. Obviously he is not getting on base enough, but that .200 ISO stands out (If I did my math right, which I don't always do). Aguilar is repeating Charleston, and at some point Mateo will get promoted, thus opening an infield spot in Tampa. If Aguilar can keep piling up extra base hits, perhaps he could be moved up to Tampa when Mateo gets the call to Trenton. That way it'd give Park, Holder, and Thairo Estrada everyday reps on the infield, and it opens up the DH spot for an outfielder whenever Trey Amburgey returns.
