  • After escaping the first game of the double header with only two hits, with the first coming in the sixth inning of the seven-inning game, the Tampa pitching staff came close to pulling off a perfect game themselves in the second game of the double header. Reeves made his first career start in this game and dazzled. A scout at the game had him sitting at 89-90 mph with the fastball, to go with a delivery that makes it tough for opposing batters to pick up the ball coming out his and. As for the perfect game, Juiper broke that up, the no-hitter, and the shutout on one swing in the seventh, just two outs away from a perfect game, on a Justin Bohn homer off Hissong. Alas.
  • As for pitchers who have the potential of throwing a perfect game, especially at this level, James Kaprielian will start his throwing program in "a week or more" before returning to the mound in 4-6 weeks, said Hal Steinbrenner, of all people. We're a little over three weeks already since he was placed on the DL, so either the Yankees undersold the severity of the injury or they're being extra cautious here. At this point if all goes well I suppose Kaprielian could return some time in July, hopefully get to Trenton before season's end, and possibly get some innings in at the Arizona Fall League.
Low-A Charleston

3B. Thairo Estrada: 3-5, 2B
2B. Hoy Jun Park: 2-4, 2B, BB, K
DH. Angel Aguilar: 1-4, K
SS. Kyle Holder: 2-4, 2B
LF. Leonardo Molina: 2-3, HR, SF

  • First homer as a RiverDog for Molina and he crushed it over the Green Monster at Fluor Field. His other hit was a long single that he hit high off the Monster later on, and that too was nearly a home run. Molina has always had loud tools and it was about those tools translating into games, and that could be happening before he even turns 19.
